Week 6

Friday was a lovely early cycle, feeling good and enjoying being out 6k no problem.

Today, Sunday, was certainly much more a challenge, although I woke feeling good.  The start of my cycle was great, looking at the beautiful colours of green on the trees from the entrance of the common, Spring colours.  As I was cycling past the old control tower – now a cafe, a momentary stop for a photo.  So good to that it has obviously opened it’s doors again with gazebo’s outside for people to sit under and eat and drink.

As I reached the halfway of 6k cycle, my body started to tell me it was not happy, not just fatigue hitting, but stuff it should not do!  For me this is usual when I am walking, after all not only with my disability, but when you have broken as much of your body as I have you kinda learn to deal with doing strange things, but not usually when cycling.

I took a couple of little breaks over the course of the remainder of the cycle, but today was a challenge, and yes doubts crept into my mind, can I do this challenge, or have I bitten off more than I can chew this time, after all there is greater deterioration than even last year, partly due to more injuries since then.  I remembered that when I was training in sports or off-road mountain biking sometimes you just have to tell yourself to keep going.  And today was just about keep pushing those peddles no matter how slow, just keep peddling.  Tackling adversity is what I am used to, I know my body will work it out with compassion and self-care over the next few days, and next week when I come to cycle again it is likely to say ‘ok I can do this’.  It is just today was not a good day, ending with tears back at the van.  But I did manage 6k and that is a win, I have not broken anything, just a little displaced, and that I can handle, so all is good.

Please if you feel able to share my posts, to raise awareness of the challenge I have set myself and help me reach my fundraising goal for this very worthy charity for deaf children.

If you would like to know why more about this challenge and perhaps donate to this amazing charity if you feel able
